In gas ovens, the igniter must glow bright orange or yellow to signal the gas valve to release fuel. If the oven fails to reach temperature, observe the burner area during a preheat cycle. If the igniter does not glow, or if it glows but the burner fails to ignite with a standard 'whoosh' sound, the igniter is likely weak or dead. Verify that the gas supply is fully open by testing stovetop burners.
