An air leak occurs when the pump intake system is not airtight. This is diagnosed by inspecting the pump lid for physical cracks or loose threading and verifying the integrity of the O-ring gasket. If the gasket appears dry, brittle, or deformed, it is failing to create the necessary vacuum seal to prevent air from entering the intake line.
