Heat creep occurs when the filament softens prematurely within the extruder assembly before reaching the nozzle, often caused by inadequate cooling in the toolhead. This leads to partial or total clogs, resulting in under-extrusion or complete print failure mid-process. This condition is frequently exacerbated by printing with the top cover closed or the front door sealed while using high-temperature-sensitive materials like PLA in a warm environment, causing the filament to deform and jam the extrusion path.
