Advancing the saw too rapidly through the material prevents the teeth from making clean, sequential cuts. To diagnose this, observe the saw during operation. If the tool exhibits audible 'chatter' (vibration) or if the saw motor pitch changes significantly while moving through the wood, the operator is likely forcing the feed rate. This excessive speed forces the blade to deflect and rip through the grain rather than shearing it.
