To confirm the nature of the noise, observe the printer during operation and categorize the sound: clicking originates from the extruder motor; grinding or screeching indicates mechanical friction on rods or pulleys; whirring or humming suggests cooling fan or stepper motor resonance; and rattling identifies loose hardware on the frame. Document which axis is moving and whether the sound occurs during retraction or active extrusion to isolate the source.
