Loose mechanical connections between the motor and the lead screw or belt drive will cause the motor to rotate without moving the axis the expected distance. Confirm this by applying slippage marks across the motor shaft, coupler, and lead screw using a marker or correction fluid. If the marks lose their alignment after operation, the connection is slipping.
