The vacuum pump is a frequent source of oil leaks that mimic a rear engine seal failure. Confirm this by inspecting the vacuum pump housing located on the engine. If the pump exterior and the surrounding engine block are coated in oil, or if oil is tracking downward from the pump toward the transmission bell housing, the pump seals have likely failed.
