Replace the CMOS CR2032 Battery

Follow these steps to replace the depleted CMOS battery:

  1. Power off the computer completely and disconnect the power cable from the wall outlet.
  2. Open the computer case (desktop) or the back access panel (laptop) to gain access to the motherboard.
  3. Locate the CR2032 coin-cell battery on the motherboard surface.
  4. Gently press the metal release tab on the battery socket to pop the battery out.
  5. Insert a new, fresh CR2032 battery into the socket, ensuring the positive (+) side is facing upward or as indicated by the markings on the holder.
  6. Close the case and reconnect the power cable.
  7. Power on the computer and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing Del, F2, or F10 during startup).
  8. Set the correct date and time in the BIOS, save your changes, and exit.
  9. Verify the fix by shutting down the computer, unplugging it for several minutes, and checking if the time remains accurate upon reboot.
