Replace Bank 2 Intake Camshaft Position Sensor

If the oil system and mechanical timing have been verified, a faulty camshaft position sensor may be providing erratic data to the ECM, triggering a false P0021 code.

  1. Locate the Bank 2 intake camshaft position sensor, which is mounted on the rear of the passenger-side cylinder head.
  2. Disconnect the electrical harness connector and remove the single retaining bolt.
  3. Carefully pull the sensor out of the cylinder head and inspect the magnetic tip for excessive metallic debris or physical damage.
  4. Install a new OEM-specification camshaft position sensor and tighten the retaining bolt to the manufacturer's torque specification.
  5. Reconnect the electrical harness, clear the P0021 diagnostic trouble code using an OBD2 scan tool, and perform a road test to confirm the system is operating within parameters.
