Clean or Replace Distributor Cap and Rotor

Carbon tracking or corrosion inside the distributor can interrupt the spark. To fix this:

  1. Unclip the distributor cap and inspect the internal brass terminals for oxidation or carbon buildup.
  2. Use fine-grit sandpaper to gently clean the terminals and the rotor tip if they are only lightly corroded.
  3. If cracks or deep carbon tracks are visible, discard the cap and rotor.
  4. Install a new cap and rotor arm, ensuring they seat firmly.
  5. Verify ignition consistency by checking for a strong blue spark at the spark plug wires while cranking.
