Replace the Fan Control Module or Cooling Fan Motor

Safety Precautions: Disconnect the negative battery terminal before starting any electrical work. Ensure the engine is cool to the touch to prevent thermal burns.

Tools Needed: 10mm socket, flat-head screwdriver, new Fan Control Module (FCM) or replacement cooling fan assembly, and wire cutters/crimpers for connector inspection.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Remove the battery and the battery tray to access the Fan Control Module (FCM), which is located on the chassis rail beneath the battery tray.
  2. Unplug the wiring harnesses connected to the FCM. Inspect the pins for signs of corrosion or melting.
  3. Unbolt the FCM from the mounting bracket and install the new unit, ensuring the connector is seated firmly until it clicks.
  4. If the FCM is functioning but the fans still fail to engage, locate the cooling fan electrical connector behind the front bumper.
  5. Disconnect the fan motor harness and use a multimeter to verify that the FCM is sending 12V power to the fan motors when the A/C is set to 'LO' at idle.
  6. If power is present at the connector but the fan does not spin, replace the cooling fan assembly by removing the radiator shroud bolts and sliding the fan unit out.
  7. Reinstall all components in reverse order and reconnect the battery.

Verification: Start the engine, set the HVAC to 'LO' and blower speed to maximum. Both cooling fans must engage immediately. If they operate continuously, the system is repaired.
