Reinforce Salon Table Substrate for Tile Stability

To prevent tile lifting caused by substrate deflection, you must increase the rigidity of your table surface. Follow these steps to reinforce the structure:

  1. Remove existing tiles and adhesive from the table surface to expose the underlying substrate.
  2. Inspect the frame supports. If the current tabletop is less than 3/4 inch thick, install a new 3/4-inch plywood board over the existing surface or replace the existing board entirely.
  3. If the frame supports are spaced too widely, install additional metal bracing or wooden cross-members beneath the plywood to provide solid support across the entire surface area.
  4. Ensure the new substrate is level and securely fastened to the table frame using appropriate screws.
  5. Verify the fix by applying firm pressure to various points on the table; the surface should not flex or move under weight.
  6. Proceed with re-tiling only after confirming the substrate is completely rigid.

Safety Precautions: Wear safety glasses and gloves when handling wood, metal, or adhesive removal tools. Ensure the table is stable and cannot tip over while you are applying downward pressure during the reinforcement process.
