To resolve conflicts with Modern Standby (S0) on your Dell Precision 5550, follow these steps to modify power management settings that interfere with low-power state transitions:
- Disable Fast Startup: Open the Control Panel, navigate to Power Options, and select Choose what the power buttons do. Click the link labeled Change settings that are currently unavailable. Under Shutdown settings, uncheck Turn on fast startup and click Save changes.
- Reset the Hibernation File: Open the Command Prompt as an administrator. Type
powercfg -h off and press Enter to disable hibernation and clear the existing file. Restart the computer. Once rebooted, open the Command Prompt as administrator again and type powercfg -h on to re-enable hibernation with a fresh, uncorrupted system file. - Verify the Fix: Restart your system and perform a test by putting the computer into Sleep mode via the Start menu. Allow the system to remain in sleep for at least 10 minutes, then attempt to wake the system by pressing the power button or opening the lid. If the system resumes immediately without stalling on a black screen, the power state conflict is resolved.
