Clean Dishwasher Sump Filter and Spray Arm Nozzles

Safety Precautions: Ensure the dishwasher is powered off and the water supply is disconnected before starting. Wear gloves to protect against sharp debris.

Tools Needed: A soft-bristle brush, warm water, and a thin probe like a toothpick or bamboo skewer.

Steps:

  1. Locate the sump filter at the bottom of the dishwasher tub. Twist or lift the filter assembly to remove it from the unit.
  2. Rinse the filter thoroughly under warm running water. Use a soft-bristle brush to gently scrub away stubborn food particles, grease, and grime buildup until the mesh is clear.
  3. Inspect the spray arms. If your model allows, remove the spray arms by unscrewing or unclipping them.
  4. Use a toothpick or bamboo skewer to carefully poke through each nozzle on the spray arms to dislodge trapped food particles or mineral deposits.
  5. Rinse the spray arms under water to flush out any debris loosened during the probing process.
  6. Reinstall the spray arms, ensuring they are securely fastened and can rotate freely without obstruction.
  7. Reinsert the cleaned sump filter into the bottom of the tub and lock it into place.

Verification: Reconnect power and water. Run an empty cycle to ensure water flows freely through the spray arm nozzles and that the filtration system is properly seated.
