1. Remove the seat assembly from the vehicle to access the potentiometer located on the seatback drive mechanism.
2. Inspect the potentiometer gear for signs of wear, misalignment, or slippage; if the gear is intact, proceed to test the internal resistance using a multimeter while manually rotating the potentiometer shaft.
3. If the resistance values are erratic, show an open circuit, or do not change smoothly through the range of motion, disassemble the potentiometer housing to clean the internal contacts or replace the unit with a verified functional component.
4. If utilizing a repair kit, follow the kit instructions to replace the internal resistive track or worn gears, ensuring the potentiometer is properly indexed to the seat position.
5. Reinstall the potentiometer onto the seatback drive, reconnect the electrical harness, and restore power to the vehicle.
6. Verify the fix by operating the seat through its full range of motion; the ECU should now receive consistent position data, allowing the motor to engage and the 'easy entry' function to operate normally.
