Optimize Power Management Settings to Limit Thermal Output

If your laptop is overheating due to resource-heavy software, you can reduce the thermal load by capping the maximum processor state.

  1. Open the Control Panel and navigate to Power Options.
  2. Select Change plan settings next to your currently active power plan.
  3. Click Change advanced power settings.
  4. In the list, expand Processor power management.
  5. Expand Maximum processor state and set the percentage to 90% or 95%. This minor reduction significantly lowers heat generation without causing noticeable performance drops in most applications.
  6. Click Apply and OK to save your changes.
