Replace the Charge Port Sensor Assembly

This procedure involves replacing the hardware-integrated sensor assembly to resolve the CP_a043 fault. Due to the high-voltage nature of the vehicle charging system, it is recommended that this repair be performed by an authorized Tesla Service technician.

Safety Precautions

  • Ensure the vehicle is powered down and disconnected from any charging equipment.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for automotive electrical service.

Steps to Replace

  1. Schedule a service appointment through the Tesla mobile app to have the charge port door sensor assembly replaced.
  2. The technician will remove the exterior charge port trim and access the internal sensor housing.
  3. The failed sensor assembly will be disconnected from the vehicle harness and removed.
  4. A new, verified sensor assembly will be installed and connected to the harness.
  5. The technician will perform a software handshake/re-calibration to ensure the vehicle recognizes the new sensor and the door's state.

Verification

  1. Once the repair is complete, attempt to open and close the charge port door.
  2. Monitor the vehicle's center screen or instrument cluster to ensure the door state is accurately reported.
  3. Verify that the CP_a043 error code is cleared from the vehicle's alert system.
