Safety Precautions: Disconnect the negative battery terminal before starting work to prevent electrical shorts.
Tools Needed: Socket set, wrench, new starter solenoid, and safety glasses.
- Locate the starter motor under the vehicle and remove the protective heat shield if present.
- Disconnect the heavy gauge power cable and the smaller signal wire from the solenoid terminals.
- Unbolt the starter motor from the engine block and remove it from the vehicle.
- Unscrew the mounting bolts holding the old solenoid to the starter motor housing.
- Install the new solenoid and secure it with the mounting bolts.
- Reinstall the starter motor into the vehicle and reconnect all electrical wires.
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal and attempt to start the engine to verify proper operation.
