Lubricate Hinge Pins to Eliminate Friction

Tools and Materials Needed: High-quality silicone-based, PTFE, or synthetic lubricant; a soft cloth or brush; a hammer; and a nail.

Steps:

  1. Use a hammer and a nail to gently tap the hinge pin upward until it is removed from the hinge assembly.
  2. Use a soft cloth or brush to thoroughly remove any visible dust, dirt, or old, grimy residue from the hinge pin and the interior of the hinge knuckles.
  3. Apply a generous coating of your chosen silicone-based, PTFE, or synthetic lubricant directly to the hinge pin and into the gaps of the hinge knuckles.
  4. Reinsert the hinge pin back into the hinge assembly and tap it into place with the hammer.
  5. Cycle the door open and closed 20–30 times to ensure the lubricant is evenly distributed throughout the metal contact points.

Verification: The squeaking noise should be completely eliminated during normal door operation.
