Replace Permeated Sanitation Hoses

Tools and Materials Needed: New sanitation-grade hose (check diameter), hose cutters or a sharp utility knife, new stainless steel hose clamps, screwdriver or nut driver, bucket and rags, and a lubricant for hose installation.

Safety Precautions: Wear rubber gloves and eye protection to prevent contact with residual waste. Ensure the holding tank is pumped out and the system is flushed thoroughly before disconnecting any lines.

Steps:

1. Place a bucket and rags under the existing hose connections to catch any residual liquid remaining in the lines.
2. Loosen the hose clamps at both ends of the affected hose section and carefully slide the hose off the fittings.
3. Measure the length of the old hose and cut the new sanitation-grade hose to match exactly.
4. Apply a light coating of soapy water or marine-grade hose lubricant to the fittings to ease the installation of the new, stiffer sanitation hose.
5. Slide the new hose onto the fittings, ensuring it is pushed on completely to the stop.
6. Install two new, high-quality stainless steel hose clamps at every connection point, tightening them securely to ensure a gas-tight seal.
7. Wipe down the exterior of the new hose and surrounding area to ensure a clean surface.

Verification: Once the system is reassembled, wait 24 hours with the boat closed up. Perform the 'paper towel' test again by wiping the new hose surface with a clean towel; if no fecal odor is detected, the permeation issue is resolved.
