Remove the old oil filter and discard it. 4. Install a new, high-quality oil filter and replace the drain plug with a new crush washer. 5. Refill the engine with the manufacturer-specified viscosity and grade of synthetic oil until it reaches the 'Full' mark on the dipstick. 6. Start the engine, let it idle for 3 minutes, then shut it off and re-check the oil level to ensure it is correct. 7. Verify the fix by clearing the P0021 code with an OBD2 scanner and performing a road test to ensure the code does not return.
