Safety Precautions: Ensure the machine is parked on a flat, level surface, the engine is shut off, and the ignition key is removed. Engage the parking brake and lower the boom to the ground before beginning work.
Tools Required: Multimeter, wire strippers/crimpers, replacement sensor (if applicable), dielectric grease, and basic hand tools.
- Access the operator platform area by removing the protective covers or floor mat to expose the sensor and wiring.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the operator presence sensor and use a multimeter to test for continuity while depressing the sensor; if no change in state is detected, replace the sensor unit.
- Inspect the entire length of the wiring harness leading from the sensor to the control module for signs of fraying, insulation damage, or pinched wires.
- Examine the pins inside the harness connectors for corrosion, oxidation, or loose fitment; clean corroded pins with an electrical contact cleaner and apply a small amount of dielectric grease to prevent future moisture intrusion.
- Repair any damaged wiring segments by splicing in new automotive-grade wire, ensuring all connections are soldered or crimped with heat-shrink butt connectors for a weather-tight seal.
- Reconnect the sensor and harness, reinstall all covers, and verify the repair by turning the ignition to the 'ON' position and confirming the machine control system properly detects the operator's presence.
