Replace the Flasher Relay on a Subaru Forester SG

Tools Required: New compatible flasher relay, flashlight, trim removal tool (optional).

Safety Precautions: Ensure the ignition is switched to the OFF position and the key is removed from the ignition cylinder to prevent electrical shorts.

Steps:

  1. Locate the flasher relay under the dashboard, typically situated near the steering column or behind the interior fuse panel cover near the driver's left foot.
  2. Identify the existing relay by its rectangular housing and multi-pin connector.
  3. Firmly grasp the relay and pull it straight out from its socket; if it is secured with a clip, depress the release tab before pulling.
  4. Align the pins of the new replacement relay with the socket and press it firmly into place until it is fully seated.
  5. Reinstall any removed trim panels or fuse covers.
  6. Verify the fix by switching the ignition to the ON position and activating the hazard light switch; confirm that the mechanical 'clicking' sound is audible and all four hazard lights are flashing consistently.
