Required Tools and Materials: Plumber's silicone grease, exact replacement cartridge or stem model, cartridge puller tool, screwdriver, and an adjustable wrench.
Safety Precautions: Ensure the water supply to the shower is completely shut off. Open the shower faucet to release any remaining water pressure in the line before proceeding.
- Remove the handle cap and unscrew the handle screw to detach the handle from the fixture.
- Remove the faceplate (escutcheon) to expose the valve assembly.
- Use an adjustable wrench or the manufacturer-specified tool to unscrew the retaining nut holding the cartridge or stem in place.
- If the component is stuck, use a cartridge puller tool to carefully remove the old assembly from the valve body.
- Apply a thin layer of plumber’s silicone grease to the O-rings and rubber seals of the new cartridge to ensure a watertight fit.
- Insert the new cartridge, ensuring it is properly aligned with the valve body notches, and tighten the retaining nut securely.
- Reinstall the faceplate and handle.
- Turn the water supply back on and operate the handle to verify the drip has stopped and the faucet functions correctly.
