Replace and Adjust Breaker Points

To replace worn breaker points, follow these steps:

  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety.
  2. Remove the distributor cap and rotor.
  3. Unscrew the retaining screw and remove the old points set.
  4. Install new points, ensuring the heel sits correctly on the distributor cam lobe.
  5. Use a feeler gauge to set the gap to 0.014"–0.016" for Bosch or 0.017"–0.019" for Marelli distributors.
  6. Tighten the retaining screw and verify the dwell angle with a meter.
  7. Reconnect the battery and test the engine idle for consistency.
