Perform Software Update to Control Module Sleep Logic

This procedure requires access to the Volkswagen ODIS (Offboard Diagnostic Information System) service portal and a certified diagnostic interface cable.

  1. Connect the vehicle to a stable, high-amperage battery charger to ensure the 12V system voltage remains constant during the update process.
  2. Connect the ODIS diagnostic tool to the vehicle's OBDII port and establish a secure connection with the Volkswagen Group server.
  3. Initiate a full vehicle scan to identify all control modules and verify their current firmware versions.
  4. Navigate to the 'Software Version Management' (SVM) section within the diagnostic software.
  5. Select the specific update package designed to correct the vehicle's power management and control module sleep-mode logic.
  6. Follow the on-screen prompts to flash the updated software to the identified control modules.
  7. Once the update is complete, perform a 'Clear All DTCs' function to reset the communication bus.
  8. After the update, use the scan tool to monitor the CAN bus for 30 minutes while the vehicle is locked to verify that all modules successfully transition into 'sleep mode' and the keep-alive signals cease.
