Restore SPICA Fuel System Pressure

Safety Precautions: Work in a well-ventilated area away from open flames or sparks. Wear safety glasses and fuel-resistant gloves. Keep a fire extinguisher nearby.

Tools Needed: Fuel pressure gauge (0–30 psi range), T-fitting, fuel-rated hose clamps, box-end wrenches, and a drain pan.

Steps:

  1. Place a drain pan under the rear in-line fuel filter and the main canister filter to catch residual fuel.
  2. Disconnect the fuel line between the electric pump and the main canister filter. Install a T-fitting with a fuel pressure gauge to monitor the pressure at this junction.
  3. Inspect the rear in-line filter. If debris is visible or the filter is aged, replace it with an OEM-equivalent unit.
  4. Inspect the main canister filter element. If clogged, replace the filter element following the specific Alfa Romeo service manual procedure for the SPICA canister.
  5. Activate the electric fuel pump (without starting the engine) and check the gauge reading. If the pressure is below 10 psi, replace the electric fuel supply pump.
  6. Once the new components are installed and the gauge shows a steady 10–20 psi, remove the T-fitting and reconnect the fuel lines securely.
  7. Start the engine and verify that the fuel system maintains pressure and the engine holds an idle without stalling.
