Inspect the rear subframe attachment points on the chassis underside for structural failure. Use a bright light to examine the sheet metal surrounding the subframe mounting bolts. Look for stress fractures, hairline cracks, or visible tearing of the metal, which indicates the subframe is shifting under load and causing the clunking sound.
