To diagnose this cause, use a digital multimeter to measure the voltage across the battery terminals while the ignition is off. A healthy lead-acid battery should read approximately 12.6 to 12.8 volts. If the reading is below 12.0 volts, the battery lacks the sufficient charge required to engage the starter solenoid.
