Radicular pain, commonly referred to as sciatica, occurs when nerve roots in the lumbar spine become irritated or compressed. Unlike localized
mechanical pain, this condition is characterized by pain that radiates below the gluteal fold, often extending into the legs. Patients frequently describe the sensation as sharp, burning, or tingling, sometimes accompanied by numbness or weakness in the affected extremity. Clinical assessment often involves the Straight Leg Raise test to identify nerve root irritation. If neurological deficits such as significant motor weakness or sensory loss are present, further evaluation is necessary to determine the extent of nerve involvement.
