Biofilm, consisting of hair, soap scum, fats, oils, and food particles, accumulates on the interior walls of the drainpipe and supports odor-producing bacteria. Confirm this cause by using a flashlight to inspect the visible interior of the drain opening for visible slime, or by noting if the odor originates directly from the drain opening itself rather than from under the sink cabinet.
