Steps:
- Place a bucket beneath the P-trap to catch any water or debris.
- Unscrew the slip nuts on the P-trap connectors and remove the U-shaped pipe section.
- Use a small, flexible tube brush to physically scrub the interior walls of the pipe to remove the accumulated biofilm and sludge.
- Rinse the removed pipe section thoroughly with water.
- Reassemble the P-trap, ensuring all gaskets are seated correctly, and tighten the slip nuts.
- Pour 1/2 cup of baking soda followed by 1/2 cup of white vinegar into the drain opening.
- Allow the mixture to fizz and sit for at least 10 minutes to break down residual organic matter.
- Flush the drain with a large pot of boiling water.
- Verify the fix by running the sink faucet for one minute to ensure there are no leaks at the connections and the odor has been eliminated.
