PETG is highly hygroscopic; moisture absorbed from the air turns to steam at the nozzle, causing internal pressure that forces filament out during travel moves. To confirm this, perform a test print using a freshly opened, vacuum-sealed spool of the same filament brand. If the stringing is significantly reduced or eliminated compared to the current spool, moisture contamination is confirmed. Additionally, check if the filament 'pops' or hisses during extrusion, which is a definitive indicator of moisture content.
