Tools needed: Pliers, heat-resistant gloves.
Safety Precautions: Use caution when handling the hot end to avoid thermal burns.
- Heat the nozzle to the standard printing temperature for the material currently loaded.
- Gently insert additional filament into the extruder until molten material begins to extrude from the nozzle.
- Turn off the printer's heater and allow the nozzle temperature to drop to approximately 90°C (for PLA) or a state where the filament is soft but solid.
- Using pliers, quickly and firmly pull the filament straight back out of the extruder.
- Inspect the tip of the removed filament for debris or carbonized material; repeat the process until the tip emerges clean.
- Re-heat the nozzle and extrude a small amount of fresh filament to verify that material flows smoothly without clicking sounds from the extruder motor.
