Safety Warning: Before beginning, ensure the vehicle is safely supported on jack stands. Due to the potential involvement of high-voltage components near the drivetrain, consult your vehicle's service manual to identify and avoid restricted areas, or have a certified technician perform the repair if you are not experienced with EV drivetrain maintenance.
Tools Needed: Socket set, torque wrench, pry bar, CV axle puller, replacement CV axle assembly, and high-temperature CV joint grease.
- Lift the vehicle and remove the wheel assembly to gain access to the axle.
- Remove the axle nut and disconnect the lower control arm or steering knuckle to allow enough clearance to pull the axle from the hub.
- Carefully remove the old CV axle from the gearbox/drive unit, using a pry bar if necessary, while being careful not to damage the gearbox seal.
- Compare the new axle with the old one to ensure the length and spline count are identical.
- Install the new CV axle into the drive unit, ensuring the retaining clip clicks securely into place to prevent fluid leaks.
- Reattach the steering knuckle and control arm, torquing all fasteners to the manufacturer's specified values.
- Reinstall the axle nut and tighten it to the exact factory torque specification.
- Replace the wheel, lower the vehicle, and perform a test drive at various acceleration levels to confirm the vibration has been eliminated.
