In standalone mode, the TMC2209 driver relies on the physical logic levels of the MS1, MS2, and MS3 pins to determine its microstepping configuration. If these pins are left floating—meaning they are neither tied to GND nor VCC—the driver may enter an undefined or invalid operating state. This prevents the internal logic from correctly initializing the output stage, often resulting in the motor failing to rotate, producing only vibration, or exhibiting erratic behavior despite receiving valid STEP and DIR signals.
