Thermal creep occurs when heat from the hotend migrates upward into the cold end or heat break, causing the filament to soften prematurely before it reaches the melt zone. This softened filament expands or deforms within the narrow feed path, creating significant internal friction and mechanical resistance. This condition often manifests as the extruder motor clicking or skipping steps, as the motor lacks the torque to push the deformed filament through the restricted heat break passage.
