Tools needed: Drain pan, correct weight gear oil (per manual), socket set, funnel, and a clean rag. Safety: Ensure the engine is cool and the bike is stable on a level surface.
- Place the drain pan under the final drive housing.
- Remove the drain plug and allow the old oil to empty completely.
- Inspect the drain plug magnet for metal shavings and clean it thoroughly.
- Reinstall the drain plug with a new crush washer and torque to manufacturer specifications.
- Remove the fill plug and add the recommended volume of fresh gear oil using a funnel.
- Reinstall the fill plug and wipe away any excess oil.
- Test the motorcycle at low speeds to verify the noise has subsided.
