1. Locate the defrost timer, which is typically found behind the front kick plate, inside the temperature control housing, or within the rear machine compartment.
2. Listen closely to the timer while the refrigerator is running; a loud, persistent clicking or grinding noise often indicates a failing internal gear mechanism.
3. If the noise is confirmed to originate from the timer, disconnect the refrigerator from the power source.
4. Remove the mounting screws and carefully disconnect the wiring harness to replace the unit with an identical manufacturer-specified part.
