If the evaporator fan is obstructed by ice, it can cause a loud grinding or clicking noise. Follow these steps to clear the obstruction:
- Unplug the refrigerator from the power source to ensure safety.
- Remove the food items and the rear access panel inside the freezer compartment to expose the evaporator coils and fan.
- Inspect the fan blades and the surrounding housing for any ice accumulation or frost buildup.
- Use a hair dryer on a low heat setting or a warm, damp cloth to gently melt and remove the ice. Do not use sharp tools to chip away ice, as this may damage the coils.
- Verify that the fan blades spin freely and are not hitting any remaining ice or debris.
- Reinstall the access panel and plug the refrigerator back in to test for noise reduction.
