Inspect and Replace the Evaporator Fan Motor

If your refrigerator is making a loud noise from inside the freezer compartment, the evaporator fan motor may be failing or obstructed.

  1. Unplug the refrigerator from the power source for safety.
  2. Remove all food items and the rear interior panel of the freezer compartment to access the evaporator fan.
  3. Inspect the fan blades for any ice buildup or debris that may be obstructing movement; clear any obstructions found.
  4. Manually spin the fan blade to check for resistance or grinding sounds.
  5. If the motor is stiff, noisy, or shows signs of damage, disconnect the wiring harness and remove the mounting screws to extract the motor.
  6. Install a new evaporator fan motor, reconnect the wiring, and reattach the interior panel before plugging the unit back in.
